Nagarhole has the highest congregation of Asian elephant in the world (at Kabini back water)

Nagarhole is exactly located on the junction where the table land of Deccan plateau climbs up on to the Western Ghats Mountains about 90km west of Mysore city. Thus Nagarahole tiger reserve is situated at the foot hills of Brahmagiri hill range (eastern range) of Western Ghats. Nagarahole tiger reserve is surrounded by Wayanad wildlife sanctuary on the Southwest border and by Kabini reservoir on the South-eastern side which further connects to Bandipur Tiger reserve. On the Northern side, it is bordered by Devmachi, Maukal and Anechowkur reserved forests followed by Dubare and Doddaharave reserve forest. The Western side of the tiger reserve is surrounded by private coffee estates and all along the Eastern side there are large number of villages and agricultural lands.
